For the past 4 years, Picayune School District Early Childhood Programs has provided a variety of resources to residents of Pearl River County via the Picayune Family Resource & Education Center. Our core services are focused around access to resources, promoting positive child development, job training, promoting family literacy, increasing graduation rates, and promoting parenting skills.
In addition to an onsite computer lab with internet, printing, and early childhood development resources, services are offered via our resource center at no cost to the participant includes:
Child Development Associate Credential Training. The CDA is a competency-based and nationally recognized certification provided via the Council for Professional Recognition that ensures that entry-level early childhood professionals have the understanding of early childhood development required to provide high-quality services in an early childhood setting (e.g., child care, family child care, Early Head Start, Head Start, Pre-K). All participants are required to complete 120 clock hours of formal early childhood education training covering the growth and development of children ages 0 to 5 years old. Dr. Pamela Thomas, Director for Early Childhood Programs, serves as Instructor for the C.D.A. courses, which occur M/T/Th evenings and some Saturdays for 7 consecutive weeks. Dr. Thomas also assists participants with their “Professional Portfolios” which is a collection of reference materials related to their work. Upon completion, participants receive a CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION via Pearl River Community College’s Workforce Development Department.
