Program Governance

SCHOOL BOARD

The Picayune School District School Board is one governing body that guides our programs. This board is responsible for approving personnel policies and procedures regarding the hiring, evaluation, compensation, and termination of agency staff and for making decisions related to program design and implementation. They also provide oversight of quality services for the children and families served by our programs.

Governance for EHS / CCP and Head Start Programs also include:

  1. Policy Council.
    • A Policy Council is also required to be established as early in the program year as possible. Parents of children currently enrolled in each program option must be proportionately represented on the policy council along with other community representatives.  The policy council is responsible for:
      • approving and submitting its decisions on PSD EHS related matters;
      • using ongoing monitoring results, data on school readiness goals, and other information to conduct its responsibilities.
  2. Parent Committee. A Parent Committee comprised exclusively of parents of currently enrolled children as early in the program year as possible. This committee must be established at the center level for center-based programs and at the local program level for other program options. A program must ensure that parents of currently enrolled children understand the process for elections to the policy council or policy committee and other leadership opportunities.
    • Parent Committee responsibilities include advising staff when they need feedback on local program policies, activities and services. Parents also have the chance to plan, carry out, and participate in programs and activities for both parents and staff. Being a part of the parent committee gives parents the chance to have input into your children’s education. It also gives parents the chance to network and meet with other parents to discuss anything of interest.
